Our Staff
Jennifer Maclaughlin, Director
I joined the Arts & Sciences Career Development staff in 2016. I design and implement strategies to support the career development of A&S undergraduates at all stages in their education: as they engage in career planning, obtain experiential learning, consider and pursue graduate school options, and conduct job searches. I feel passionate about a liberal arts and sciences education, and empower students to utilize their degree in meeting their personal and professional goals. Prior to accepting this role, I was the Director of Internships & Career Services at the University at Albany’s Rockefeller College of Public Affairs & Policy for over 6 years. In addition, I worked as a Career Counselor at Pace University (New York City) and at the University of Connecticut. In my free time, I enjoy cross-country skiing, reading, hiking, and finding waterfalls – I’m currently on a journey to visit every major waterfall in New York State.

Diane Miller '88, Associate Director | Specializes in Law Careers
I am a graduate of Cornell University's College of Arts & Sciences with a B.A. in History and Government and a concentration in European history and politics. I've also completed graduate course work at Cornell in Industrial and Labor Relations. Before joining Arts & Sciences Career Development in 2000, I worked for several years as the Assistant Director for Library/Information Services at Cornell Career Services. Prior to that I worked as a book editor, a library assistant, and a benefits specialist in a human resources department. I find it rewarding to help people reach their professional goals, whether those goals are graduate education, internships or permanent employment.

Ana Adinolfi, Senior Career Associate | Specializes in Health Careers
Originally from Guilford, CT, I earned both my bachelor’s degree in English and my master’s degree in counseling psychology from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA. Before joining Arts & Sciences Career Development, I worked in the Honors Program at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. I enjoy working with students wherever they are on their path to choosing a major or career; there are so many options out there and it can be daunting to feel like you have to make a choice right this minute and then stick to it for the rest of your life. The reality is that major and career decision making is a journey that is unique to each student and my job as a career counselor is to assist students along that journey. Outside of Career Development, my favorite pastimes are reading fiction, hiking the gorge trails and discovering new restaurants.

Autumn Moser, Career Development Associate
I recently joined the College of Arts & Sciences Career Development staff in Summer 2017. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Penn State University where I was part of the ballet company and dance team. I earned my Masters of Education in Student Affairs at Kutztown University where I also worked in the Career Development Center as a Graduate Assistant. I enjoy working with students to help them find careers they can be passionate about. I find it rewarding to assist students in their career journey from freshman to senior year and beyond. In my free time I enjoy dancing, yoga, reading and exploring Ithaca!

Policies
Resources and Appointment Policy
In order to use services and resources offered by A&S Career Development, students must be currently matriculated and enrolled in courses at the College of Arts & Sciences.
- Students are limited to ONE appointment per day and no more than ONE appointment per week unless otherwise approved by one of our counselors. Any appointments in excess of this policy are subject to cancellation.
- Alumni who have graduated from A&S within the last 5 years may meet with our staff members in person, via phone, or via video chat.
- We will, on occasion, meet with current students from other colleges; these appointments are arranged on a case-by-case basis.
Attendance Policy at Alumni and Employer Events
Relationships with alumni and employers are an important aspect of career development. As such, we hold our students to a strict attendance and cancellation policy.
-
If you can no longer attend an event and fail to remove yourself from the event registration without sufficient notice (typically 24 hours prior to the event), a violation will be put on your Handshake account and you will be required to meet with a Career Services staff member to discuss the reason for the absence and necessary actions to rectify the situation.
- Two unexcused missed events will result in inability to register for events (including interviews) for one semester.
- Three unexcused missed events will result in the inability to register for events for a full academic year.
- Four or more unexcused missed events during the course of a student’s undergraduate career may result in loss of OCR access and/or Handshake privileges, and possible referral to the Judicial Administrator.
- Students who cancel within less than 24 hours before an event, or who fail to appear at an alumni-related event sponsored by our office (such as a Career Conversation, Office Hours appointment, or networking event) will have a label added to their Handshake profile making them ineligible to participate in on-campus recruiting, career conversations, office hours, or other A&S only alumni-student career networking events until the student meets with a staff member in A&S Career Development to discuss the absence.
- Students who fail to appear for a second time at an alumni-related event sponsored by our office must meet with someone in A&S Career Development and will be ineligible to participate in any A&S events with alumni, including career conversations, office hours, or other alumni-student networking events, for one semester following the date of the absence.
Practice Interview Policy
In addition to regular appointments, students may also schedule practice interviews with staff members in our office.
- These appointments must be made with at least two days of advanced notice.
- Students must return our Practice Interview Preparation form at least one business day prior to their appointment. Should students neglect to return these materials, their appointments will be rescheduled.
Recruiting, Employer Communication, and Interview Policy
Students who are participating in on-campus recruiting and interviewing at Cornell must familiarize themselves with the policies as outlined by Cornell University Career Services, especially policies applying to cancelling interviews, reneging on offers, falsifying information, and best practices for approaching employers. Further, we do not release contact information for alumni or recruiters for career-related purposes without their explicit permission to do so.
Students participating in LinkedIn or career-related communication via social media are expected to adhere to the NACE standards for professional practice.
For Faculty & Staff
Arts & Sciences students are uniquely positioned for many careers, yet they may not know how to best present their liberal arts background to employers. This is where Career Development can help. Our office is the first port of call for the English major headed for hospital administration or the sociology major thinking about environmental law, as well as any other combination of major and career. Students are encouraged to get to know Career Development staff early on in their time at Cornell.
In addition to what you find on the Career Development pages of this website, here are more resources that faculty and department staff can recommend as you advise students:
- Handshake: Cornell’s online recruiting system where employers post jobs and internships. Learn about current job openings, internship opportunities, and employers attending career fairs. Contact A&S Career Development for a faculty username and password.
- Alumni networking events are offered both on and off campus. Students may check Handshake or ask A&S Career Development for details.
- Career Fairs
- Alumni Connections Program
- Careers After Cornell: Post-graduate survey results
- Student Employment will help students looking for on-campus jobs during the academic year.
- Cornell Career Services faculty page: Information on credentials and recommendations, competitive fellowships, and Health Careers Evaluation Committee (HCEC).
Here are some simple ways to connect your students with Arts & Sciences Career Development
- Invite Arts & Sciences Career Development staff to speak to your class for 10 minutes. We’ll briefly discuss how your field of study is relevant to various careers (with examples), share a few internship or job opportunities and talk about how Career Development can help. We’ll keep the discussion broad enough that non-Arts & Sciences students in the class will benefit as well.
- Keep our Career Development materials, including employment data, in your office and hand them out during office hours. You can request more information or major-specific data by emailing Nicole Moss.
- Schedule a meeting with us to talk about how to assist your students in their career planning.
Please contact us if you know someone who wants to hire our students!
