Students host April 19 forum on proposed new A&S curriculum

The Dean’s Student Advisory Council in the College of Arts & Sciences will host a student forum to discuss the proposed curriculum changes in the college from 5-6 p.m. April 19 in Uris Hall G01.

The Curriculum Review Committee (CRC) in the College of Arts & Sciences released a draft Arts and Sciences curriculum proposal March 7, organized around modes of inquiry – distinct approaches to framing questions and solving problems across the disciplines. The proposal also offers students more choices at different points in their academic careers than the current model.

“It’s important for students to share their opinions on the new curriculum, because it will shape the college’s requirements for generations of students to come,” said Gauri Misra ‘19, co-chair of the student advisory council.

The forum will feature a presentation of the proposed curriculum, then allow time for students to ask questions and share their ideas, Misra said. Some members of the Curriculum Review Committee will attend the forum to answer questions. Misra said comments from the forum will be collated and sent to the Curriculum Review Committee.

Along with the student forum, the committee has been meeting with various departments and programs within the college to collect feedback. That process will continue throughout April. The committee is also soliciting feedback from the broader Cornell community, including advising staff, faculty from other colleges and schools, and alumni. This feedback will help to inform a second draft of the proposal that Arts & Sciences faculty will consider for a vote.
