Steven Strogatz, the Jacob Gould Schurman Professor of Applied Mathematics at Cornell, was selected for the 2016 volume of Princeton University Press’ The Best Writing on Mathematics 2016 . His article is titled “Einstein’s First Proof ,” in which he presents the young Albert Einstein's proof of the Pythagorean Theorem. It first appeared in The New Yorker.
Strogatz's research includes a broad range of applied mathematical fields, including mathematical biology and nonlinear dynamics. In addition to his research and teaching, Strogatz has also written weekly columns for the New York Times and is the author of "The Joy of X: A Guided Tour of Mathematics," published in 2012.
