Inequalities in the workplace explored in new podcast episode

Workplace Rankings,” a new episode of the “What Makes Us Human?” podcast series, explores power and status in the workplace. The podcast’s fifth season – “What Do We Know about Inequality?” – showcases the newest thinking across academic disciplines about inequality.

“I have found that our rankings of workers don’t correlate closely with their actual performance,” says Jamie Lyn Perry, assistant professor of management and organizations in the SC Johnson College of Business, in her podcast.

Perry's work focuses on the impact of team composition on conflict and performance. She has a particular interest in how power and status structures impact intragroup dynamics, and when and why particular team formations lead to collaboration versus competition.

The “What Makes Us Human?” podcast is produced by the College of Arts and Sciences in collaboration with the Cornell Broadcast Studios and features audio essays written and recorded by Cornell faculty. New episodes are released each Thursday through the spring semester, airing on WHCU and WVBR.

The episodes are also available for download on iTunes and SoundCloud and for streaming on the A&S humanities page, where text versions of the essays are also posted.
