Visiting scholar shortlisted for Man Booker Prize

Emily Fridlund, a former postdoctoral associate in the Department of English and currently a visiting scholar, has been shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize for her debut novel, “History of Wolves.”

Established in 1969, the Man Booker Prize is Britain’s most prestigious literary award. Fridlund is shortlisted along with 5 other novelists, including some of the biggest names in fiction, such as George Saunders, Zadie Smith and Paul Auster. The winner receives £50,000.

Fridlund received an MFA in fiction at Washington University in Saint Louis and a Ph.D. in literature and creative writing at the University of Southern California in 2014. Her graduate research was a study of simultaneity in modernist and contemporary narrative.

The Man Booker Prize winner will be announced October 17.
