Career advisors in the College of Arts & Sciences are offering a workshop for upperclass students Aug. 28 focused on navigating the job and internship marketplace in the coming year.
“Job and Internship Search for the 2026 job market” will take place from 4:30-6 p.m. in Room 120 of the Physical Sciences Building.
“This year, we highly recommend that students employ a well-defined strategy of targeting companies and tailoring their resume to applications,” said Jen Maclaughlin, director of A&S Career Development. “We’ve found that students who mass apply to hundreds of positions without tailoring their resume and without utilizing the Cornell network have much less success.”
Workshop leaders will share strategies for these searches and resume edits, as well as tools and resources available through the Cornell networking.
“We’ve developed a slate of resources for students – from workshops, information sessions and career fairs to individual appointments with career advisors, resume reviews, practice interviews and same-day appointments,” Maclaughlin said. Links to all of these resources and appointment scheduling tools can be found on the A&S Career Development website.
Another new tool available to students this year is Big Resume, an AI tool that offers feedback on resume readability, credibility, formatting, and AI-compatibility. Students can also upload job descriptions into the tool, along with their resume, to determine if their resume needs to be more tailored to the specific job to make it through initial cuts, which are often done by AI, Maclaughlin said.
