College departments and programs now in new locations

Thanks to the added space provided by Klarman Hall, many departments and programs in the College have shifted locations over the summer.

“As planned, the opening of Klarman Hall is having a wonderful ripple effect through the College,” said Gretchen Ritter, Harold Tanner Dean of Arts & Sciences. “We’re delighted that so many of our departments and programs that were spread out can now be consolidated. This will enhance possibilities for collaboration and make administrative responsibilities easier for staff.”

According to Dave Taylor, associate dean for administration, the moves have been carefully coordinated to address the most pressing space needs in the College. “We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation this summer,” he said.

• The Department of Science & Technology Studies is now centralized in in Morrill Hall, with the move of offices from 726 University Avenue and Rockefeller Hall.

• The Department of Asian Studies is now on adjacent floors in Rockefeller Hall, rather than spread through the building, with the move of offices from the first floor to the third.

• The Feminist, Gender & Sexuality Studies Program has moved from Uris Hall to Rockefeller Hall, situating it with other interdisciplinary studies programs.

• The John S. Knight Institute for Writing in the Disciplines will move from the first floor of McGraw Hall to the mezzanine. This move will give the Department of Anthropology and the Archaeology Program needed research, teaching and office space.

• The American Studies Program has moved from McGraw Hall to the fourth floor of Morrill Hall, where it has its own dedicated space with room for graduate student offices, a seminar classroom, and a gathering spot for faculty and students. (The Cornell in Washington office has moved from McGraw Hall, where it shared space with the American Studies Program, to its own temporary space in Morrill Hall. After the end of this fiscal year, space demands by the College in Morrill will necessitate Cornell in Washington’s relocation to another place on campus.)
