Overview
Allen Carlson is an Associate Professor in Cornell University’s Government Department. He received his PhD from Yale University’s Political Science Department. His undergraduate degree is from Colby College. Carlson has spent decades studying China’s foreign relations, including U.S.-China relations, Asian security, and China’s role in the global economy. More recently his research has focused mainly on China’s territorial periphery, particularly Tibet. In addition, he is beginning a new project that focuses on Taiwan and its relationship to China. His research primarily makes use of Chinese-language sources, and increasingly draws on Tibetan-language materials as well.
