Vocal ensemble Roomful of Teeth featured on Cornell Concert Series April 24

Roomful of Teeth will perform in the final Cornell Concert Series (CCS) production of the 2024-25 season on Thursday, April 24 at 7:30 p.m. in Bailey Hall.

Roomful of Teeth is a Grammy Award-winning vocal band dedicated to re-imagining the expressive potential of the human voice. By engaging collaboratively with artists, thinkers, and community leaders from around the world, the group seeks to uplift and amplify voices old and new while creating and performing meaningful and adventurous music using a continuously expanding vocabulary of singing techniques.

Roomful of Teeth discography includes their eponymous first album, released in 2012, which was awarded a Grammy Award for Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance, and featured Roomful of Teeth member Caroline Shaw's Pulitzer Prize-winning piece “Partita for 8 Voices.”

Their latest album, “Rough Magic” (New Amsterdam Records, 2023) was captured using groundbreaking recording techniques and innovative spatial technology. Roomful of Teeth was recognized at the 66th GRAMMY awards in 2024, winning Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance for “Rough Magic.” Composer William Brittelle’s work “Psychedelics,” which appears on “Rough Magic,” was nominated for Best Contemporary Classical Composition. Their performance at Cornell will include works by Shaw, Missy Mazzoli, Angélica Negrón and more.

In addition to the concert, Roomful of Teeth will present a multimedia session with audio and video as part of the Midday Music in Lincoln series on Thursday, April 24 at 12:30 p.m. Members of Roomful of Teeth will present various works that have been written for the ensemble, through the lens of forging new repertoire: working intimately with composers, master technicians in extended technique, and one another to accomplish extraordinary vocal feats. The Midday Music event is free and open to the public.

Artist and program information, subscriptions, single tickets, and student memberships are available through the CCS website, cornellconcertseries.com.

Free evening parking is available at the Forest Home (37 Forest Home Dr.) and Hoy garages.

The Cornell Concert Series has been hosting musicians and ensembles of international stature since 1903. Originally featuring Western classical artists, the series presented Ravi Shankar in 1987 and has since grown to encompass a broader spectrum of the world's great music.
