Madineh Sedigh-Sarvestani

Assistant Professor, Neurobiology and Behavior

Academic focus:

Neural computations underlying perception

Current research project:

My current focus is understanding how bodily constraints, like the way we move, influence how we perceive the world.

Previous positions:

  • Postdoctoral Fellow, Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience, 2017-2023

Academic background:

  • Ph.D., Biomedical engineering, Pennsylvania State University, 2013
  • B.S., Engineering, Harvey Mudd College, 2005

Last book read:

“How to Walk on Water and Climb up Walls” by David Hu

In your own time/when not working:

I try to exercise and sleep with varied success. I watch TV with excellent success.

Courses you’re most looking forward to teaching:

Computational Neuroscience and Neuroethics

What most excites you about Cornell:

Working with ambitious students and building collaborations with faculty. Neuroscience is a young and inherently interdisciplinary field and I’m excited to join forces with electrical engineers, ecology and behavioral scientists, biophysicists and mathematicians, etc., to come up with creative ways to study how the brain and body work together to produce our perceptions and actions.
