Academic focus:

19th century U.S. West

Current research project: 

I am finishing up the manuscript for my first book, “Colonial State Making,” which is about the first thirty years of California statehood and the diverse groups of people that shaped the state. I’ve also begun working on my second project, which is an environmental and settler colonial history of the California wine country.

When I’m not working, I love to hike or run and go to concerts.

A new course I’ve designed, which is a Freshman Writing Seminar about Yosemite National Park

What most excites you about Cornell:

I’m most excited about the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues in my department and across campus.
