Here are some of the highlights:
Friday events
- Noon to 11:45 p.m.: 2018 Cornell Council for the Arts (CCA) Biennial: Duration: Passage, Persistence, Survival; Johnson Museum, Arts Quad, Ag Quad; Alumni are invited to enjoy the public art installations on campus.
- 3 p.m.: Anthropology Colloquium: “Environment, Ethnography, and Engagement," 215 McGraw Hall; This panel features Jennifer Carlson, David Rojas, and Klaus Yamamoto-Hammering.
- 4:30 p.m.: The Wendy Rosenthal Gellman Lecture on Modern Literature, English Lounge, Goldwin Smith Hall Room 258; Erica Edwards, associate professor of English at Rutgers University, will deliver the lecture, "'How Very American’: Black Women Writers and the Long War on Terror." This talk is drawn from Edwards' current book project, “The Other Side of Terror: Black Women and the Grammars of State Violence.”
- 5-7 p.m.: CU Jazz: Jazz + Jam Session, Hans Bethe House, Jansen's Dining Room; Enjoy a meal and listen or join the band and play.
Saturday events
- 8 a.m.- 5 p.m.: Elizabeth and Iftikhar Dadi (History of Art): Tilism, John Hartell Gallery, Sibley Dome;Tilism is a series of large-format photographs of tiny plastic toys, scaled up to 30x, which reveal the objects' unusual materiality—marbled plastic, strange fluorescent colors, and irregular form.
- Noon-3 p.m.: Balloon Geometry, Crescent parking lot; Come and turn balloons into platonic solids (fun geometric shapes) that can be worn, carried, waved, and more. There will also be opportunities to play with, and explore, other math toys, and to learn more about math in general.
