Mathematician Steven Strogatz shared his insights and concerns about the impact of AI on the field of mathematics, and the major impact AI’s solution to the Navier-Stokes equation has had, on the New York Times podcast “The Daily.” 

“Objectively, what it did was really beautiful and brilliant but it wasn’t human,” said Strogatz, , the Susan and Barton Winokur Distinguished Professor for the Public Understanding of Science and Mathematics in the College of Arts & Sciences. “It has knowledge like no human mathematician has ever had. So it’s a totally alien kind of intelligence that we have created that’s now teaching us.”
