Jamila Michener , assistant professor of government, considers in an opinion piece in the Houston Chronicle how government action in response to the coronavirus outbreak will affect gig workers.
“The new US$2.2 trillion stimulus package promises relief,” she writes. “Gig workers like my brother will soon be eligible for unemployment benefits. Still, precisely how much they will qualify for and how quickly they will get those benefits remains unclear.”
