Project Title: Development Economics of the Four Asian Tigers
Project Description: My project aims to examine the rapid economic and social transformation of the Four Asian Tigers (Taiwan, South Korea, Singapore, and Hong Kong) to high-income economies in a matter of years. These countries’ success has also brought unprecedented challenges: aging populations, corporate-government collusion, and underemployment are just a few of the issues confronting them. I hope to leverage these nations' historical, political, and macroeconomic perspectives to simplify this complex phenomenon in emerging markets and utilize an interdisciplinary approach to propose solutions to alleviate these issues.
Most Important Accomplishment: I was lucky enough to have my paper on the relationship between military parity and effective diplomacy recognized by the National Maritime Historical Society!
Reflections on the College Scholar Program: The College Scholar Program is one of the few at Cornell allowing for the free exploration of my research interests without the rigidity of some major requirements while also providing me the mentorship and guidance for a successful undergraduate experience. A tight-knit community of peers who share a passion for interdisciplinary exploration is also a huge asset of this program.
