Project Title: Mythopoesis
Project Description: Mythopoesis is Tolkien’s word for the act of myth creation. The project I’m undertaking consists of investigating the effects of myth on the human psyche, cross-cultural analyses of archetypes in stories, subversions of near-universal archetypes, and the epistemological value of fables. I hope to answer the question of what types of myths we should try to create and which ones we should let ourselves believe in.
Most important Accomplishment: I would say my current proudest accomplishment is my almost 500 day Duolingo streak for Welsh.
Reflections on the College Scholar Program: I’m grateful that the College Scholar program allows me to ignore academic borders. It has been a frustration of mine that occasionally disciplines get huffy when outside methods are introduced. My desire to investigate stories pulls me through many strange lands (i.e. departments) and being given the greenlight to crash through the ivory walls siphoning off each academic discipline is helpful.
