John Josephson

Chairman and CEO, SESAC Music Group

Overview

John has served as Chairman and CEO of SESAC Music Group, a leading music rights management and content company, since 2014.  SESAC was acquired by affiliates of The Blackstone Group in February 2017.  Blackstone’s acquisition of SESAC was the first as part of its Core Equity strategy, which is designed to hold investments for much longer periods of time than traditional private equity funds. Previously, John was a Managing Director at Allen & Company LLC. 

John currently serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Paley Center for Media, the New York Advisory Board of Teach for America and the Board of Directors of the Songwriters Hall of Fame.  He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the Recording Academy and is a former Chairman of Volunteers of America – Greater New York, a social services agency with annual contract revenues of approximately $100 million which owns or manages a portfolio of over 25 residential buildings in the New York area.  John lives in New York with his wife, Carolina Zapf.  His children Lily, Nicholas and Sophie are all undergraduates in the College of Arts & Sciences.
