Andrew Harding

Visiting Lecturer

Overview

Andrew Harding received an MA in Comparative Literature from London's School of Oriental and African Studies, and completed his PhD in Japanese Literature at Cornell. He is interested in the intersections of race, gender, and class as they are figured in post-colonial nationalisms, and in how a distinction between "majority" and "minority" demographics has framed these discourses. He has a particular interest in the Korean diaspora in post-1945 Japan, and his PhD thesis addresses the ways in which Korean authors writing in Japanese have tried to challenge the assumed parity between ethnicity and national belonging. This academic year Andrew will be teaching Japanese language and a Freshman Writing Seminar focusing on slippages between history and fiction writing. He will also be working with the Einaudi Center toward the establishment of a Global Racial Justice Initiative.
