Overview

Alex ("Arc") Kocurek's main research interests are in philosophical logic, philosophy of language, metaphysics, and epistemology. His primary focus is on the logic and metaphysics of modality, counterfactuals, and identity, as well as the intersection of logic and metametaphysics, mereology, and temporal persistence. In 2018, he earned his PhD in the Group in Logic and Methodology of Science at the University of California, Berkeley. His dissertation, titled What Can You Say? Measuring the Expressive Power of Languages, is an exploration the notion of expressive power in which he develops a systematic theory for comparing different measures of expressive power.
