Alex Hanson

Overview

Alex Hanson '87 helps lead TGS Management Company LLC, a Princeton, NJ-based equity securities trading firm active in statistical arbitrage, where he has been since 1991. At TGS, he serves in a senior operating officer role and is responsible for overseeing securities trading, finance, and accounting, managing all counterparty and financing relationships, negotiating legal contracts and acting in an executive capacity. At TGS he has held lead quantitative and qualitative roles regarding numerous investment strategies. Alex started his career at Salomon Brothers in fixed income trading.

Alex graduated from the College of Arts and Science in 1987 with a major in economics. He also holds an MBA from Columbia Business School with a concentration in accounting and international business. Besides his position as chair of the College of Arts and Science Advisory Council, Alex is a member of the Cornell University Board of Trustees, where he serves as Co-Chair of the Student Life Committee. He was former National Chair, Cornell Annual Funds and was co-chair of the class of 1987's 25th reunion campaign (2011-12), and was a 15th and 20th reunion campaign major gifts committee member. He has also previously been a Tower Club Committee member and a CAAAN representative. Alex and his wife Laura '87 live in New Jersey and have 3 children, Eliza, Abby ’16 and Perry ‘19.
