A&S profs to offer take on midterm elections during CAU seminar

Will Republicans retain control of the House and/or the Senate? Will the U.S.prioritize immigration reform? Trade? Health care? International relations?

With a historic level of political division, the upcoming midterm elections could be an influential and potent political turning point.

Arts & Sciences professors Gretchen Ritter and Glenn Altschuler will offer their insight on this historic time during a Cornell Adult University re-election seminar Nov. 2-4 at the Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz, N.Y. Cornell Adult University (CAU) offers educational vacations designed and led by Cornell faculty.

The event will include lectures, discussions and conversations from which those of all political ideologies can gain valuable insight.

Altschuler, dean of the School of Continuing Education and Summer Sessions and the Thomas and Dorothy Litwin Professor of American Studies, will focus on the cultural and ideological factors surrounding the election from an analytic standpoint.

Ritter, a professor of government, former dean of the College of Arts & Sciences and member of the Council on Foreign Relations, will be contributing insight relating to issues of democracy and citizenship.

“This will be one of the most important midterm elections we have seen in many decades,” Ritter said. “I hope the participants in the course come away with a sense of why this election matters so much and what it will likely tell us about the future of the Republican and Democratic parties.”

Registration for the event and more details can be found on Cornell Handshake.
