Overview
I am a sociologist specializing in gender, sexuality, and feminist science studies. I am an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Cornell University. I earned my PhD in Sociology from the University of Michigan in 2020, with Graduate Certificates in Science, Technology, and Society (STS), and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) Studies. I study the social construction of sexuality knowledge—in particular, the knowledge produced through demography and population measurement. I am writing a book, Queer Counts: Tracing the Social Lives of Sexuality Statistics from Diagnosis to Demographic. My work has also focused on reproductive health, intimate partner violence, social survey measures, and sexual identity. My work has been supported by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, and my peer-reviewed research has been published in the American Sociological Review, Contexts, Demography, Gender & Society, and Sexualities. My SHUM project, Carrying Capacity: On (Not) Parenting in the Era of Climate Change, examines reproductive decision-making at the nexus of climate, gender, and demographic politics.
