Overview

Mr. Herath received his BA in Sinhala (Second Class Upper Division) in 1986 from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. He is currently working on his MA and Ph.D. in Sinhala at the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka under the direction of Professor P.B. Meegaskumbura.

Mr. Herath has received training in teaching Sinhala to non-native speakers through the Peace Corps in Sri Lanka, and at the Center for the Applied Linguistics in Washington, D.C. Since 1987 he has taught Sinhala as a second language through his annual participation in the Intercollegiate Sri Lanka Education (I.S.L.E.) Sinhala program, the South Asia Summer Language Institute (SASLI) at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and the Fulbright Study Program.

He has also assisted in developing a Sinhala competency based text book and curriculum and has recently complied an English Sinhala dictionary with Sinhala transliterations, reading text books and a book to learn the Sinhala script.
