Project title: Data Center Laws within the African Free Trade Area
Project description: The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), if implemented, will be one of the most advanced and far-reaching economic treaties of our generation. I am interested in the legal jurisprudence that will be necessary to bring the AfCFTA. Specifically, I am interested in private international trade law and AI law (data centers). My project will study how the emerging field of AI and Data sovereignty can be incorporated into the AfCFTA. How have other trade unions, like the EU, thoguht of managing Data Centers? Where will these centers be housed, which ones will be on the cloud vs onshore? How can African countries achieve digital independence through the AfCFTA? Can they?
Most important achievement: Learning to think for myself
Reflections on the College Scholar Program: I have not been able to experience much as I have been abroad for my Sophomore year. Still, I feel that this program will be the most important thing I have done in my life and the weight of it excites me. I can hardly wait to return to campus and get right into it.
