Overview
Matilda Prestano earned her master's degree from Gallaudet University's Master in Sign Language Education (MASLED) program. After several years of teaching American Sign Language (ASL) in a variety of settings, including the University of Texas, her primary interests have expanded to research in ASL linguistics and De'VIA (Deaf View/Image Art).
She enjoys teaching ASL I, II, and III and is committed to immersing students in the linguistic through direct instruction in American Sign Language. In addition, she works closely with the Department of Linguistics' ASL Program Instagram account and established the monthly ASL Social to foster engagement and build community among ASL students. Matilda also holds Professional Certification from the American Sign Language Teachers Association (ASLTA).
In 2020, Matilda was featured in the TRUE+WAY ASL digital textbook and curriculum. Outside of her professional work, she enjoys traveling, hiking, and photography.
