Talbot Andrews
Assistant Professor, Government
Academic focus:
I study how everyday people think about climate change and engage in climate politics. I'm especially interested in how disasters shape people’s opinions, and how political institutions can better prepare for and respond to climate disaster.
Current research project:
I'm especially excited about a project on emotional communication around disastersThe modern media and social media environment allows us to not only learn about ongoing and potential disasters, but we also experience how distant others feel about those disasters. In this project, I'm seeking to better understand when seeing others' emotions online motivates us to take disasters more seriously and support prevention policies. And when seeing others' emotion online instead leads us to dismiss the expresser as simply over emotional.
