You are here
The curriculum in the College of Arts & Sciences is designed to allow you to complete your degree requirements while exploring your interests and working toward completing a major. When putting together your first-year schedule, remember that there is no single formula that works for everyone; we encourage you to choose subjects you are excited to explore.
To give you a sense of the possibilities, here are three sample schedules for students who are pursuing different trajectories:
- Student A , who is truly undecided
- Student B , who is considering a major in Economics but wants to take time to explore other disciplines
- Student C , who is pre-med
As you can see, these students were able to take a variety of courses, acquaint themselves with a number of disciplines, and still easily fulfill their degree requirements. Your advisors are available to help you keep track of these requirements and to assist you in planning out your schedule in coming semesters.
The course catalog is enormous, and is one of the university's greatest strengths. Don't be afraid to take all kinds of classes ... If you're concerned about grades, take it S/U... People will appreciate that you have varied interests. - Alex Polino, '15
It's okay to be undecided! I know quite a few people who seemed to know exactly what they wanted to do - and then they ended up changing their majors. - Annelise Raymond, '16
