Nora Owen

Lecturer

Overview

Born to a hearing family and raised in San Diego, California, Nora learned ASL when she was three years old and attended the California School for the Deaf in Riverside, CSDR.  ASL is Nora's first language, English is her second, and California will always have a place in her heart. After graduating from CSDR, Nora moved to Rochester, NY to attend NTID/RIT, earning a master's degree in Deaf Education.

For three years after that, Nora taught ASL at the University of Buffalo, and found it a great experience. She then moved to Colorado and lived there for another three years as a trainer for Sorenson Communications before moving back to Rochester.  She is now looking forward to her third year as an ASL Lecturer at Cornell University.

Nora has been doing CrossFit for several years and cannot live without it. She loves water activities such as kayaking, SUPing (Stand-Up Paddleboarding), swimming, boating and more. Nora travels when she can and enjoys exploring new cultures and foods. She also enjoys cooking, hiking, walking with her dog, Odell, hanging out with close friends and watching Netflix.
