Class of 2020
Hometown: San Diego, CA
What is your College Scholar project?
To examine the roles stories play in the formation of individual subjectivities. The project is still developing, but in its current form I’m working to synthesize ideas from anthropology, narrrative theory, and cognitive science into a picture of how people’s self-concepts and desires are shaped by the stories they encounter throughout life. Ideally, I will both explore the ways that worldviews are implicitly constructed through socialization processes, and the potential that explicitly seizing on particular narratives has to enable new ways of thinking, and perceptual change.
What are your most important extra-curricular activities?
Classical piano, participation in graduate reading groups, independent reading and discussion.
What do you dream of doing after graduation?
Going to graduate school, with the aim of eventually becoming either an independent writer or teacher (or both).
