The Arts & Sciences Career Development Center offers various career development tools and services to help liberal arts students define and pursue their goals. Advisers are available to meet with students from freshmen to seniors to discuss career exploration, job search strategy and communication with employers, including resume reviews and practice interviews. Career interest and skill assessment tools are available via group sessions and individual career counseling appointments. Visit our office or call to schedule a regular appointment.

Office Hours & Drop-Ins
A&S Career Development Center Office Hours
- Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
- Monday - Friday: 2:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Drop-ins are 15-minute meetings with a career advisor for help with resumes, cover letters, internship/job searches, or any other quick question or concern. Please note that we only hold drop-ins while classes are in session.
Resume Critique Hours
Resume critiques are performed on a one-on-one drop-in basis throughout the semester during these times*:
Mondays: 10:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Tuesdays: 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m, 1:30 p.m.- 4:00 p.m.
Wednesdays: 10:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Thursdays: 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m, 1:30 p.m.- 4:00 p.m.
Fridays: 12:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Health Career Advising Walk-ins
- Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 2:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. during the academic year
During high traffic times at the beginning of each semester and right before pre-enroll, health careers students are seen on a walk-in only basis.
Jennifer Maclaughlin, Director
I joined the Arts & Sciences Career Development Center staff in 2016. I design and implement strategies to support the career development of A&S undergraduates at all stages in their education: as they engage in career planning, obtain experiential learning, consider and pursue graduate school options, and conduct job searches. I feel passionate about a liberal arts and sciences education, and empower students to utilize their degree in meeting their personal and professional goals. Prior to accepting this role, I was the Director of Internships & Career Services at the University at Albany’s Rockefeller College of Public Affairs & Policy for over 6 years. In addition, I worked as a Career Counselor at Pace University (New York City) and at the University of Connecticut. In my free time, I enjoy cross-country skiing, reading, hiking, and finding waterfalls – I’m currently on a journey to visit every major waterfall in New York State.
Diane Miller '88, Associate Director
I am a graduate of Cornell University's College of Arts & Sciences with a B.A. in History and Government and a concentration in European history and politics. I've also completed graduate course work at Cornell in Industrial and Labor Relations. Before joining the Arts & Sciences Career Development Center in 2000, I worked for several years as the Assistant Director for Library/Information Services at Cornell Career Services. Prior to that I worked as a book editor, a library assistant, and a benefits specialist in a human resources department. I find it rewarding to help people reach their professional goals, whether those goals are graduate education, internships or permanent employment.
Ana Adinolfi, Career Counselor
Originally from Guilford, CT, I earned both my bachelor’s degree in English and my master’s degree in counseling psychology from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA. Before joining Arts & Sciences Career Development, I worked in the Honors Program at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. I enjoy working with students wherever they are on their path to choosing a major or career; there are so many options out there and it can be daunting to feel like you have to make a choice right this minute and then stick to it for the rest of your life. The reality is that major and career decision making is a journey that is unique to each student and my job as a career counselor is to assist students along that journey. Outside of Career Development, my favorite pastimes are reading fiction, hiking the gorge trails and discovering new restaurants.
Mimi Hacking, Program Coordinator
I came on board in 2016, where I now help with the nitty gritty administrative side to career development. In our office, I organize post-graduate employment data, as well as plan and coordinate employer and alumni visits to campus. Before joining the team, I spent about several years working in career services at the University of Pennsylvania Law School. I love meeting students and helping them shape their futures.
Resources and Appointment Policy
In order to use services and resources offered by the Career Development Center, students must be currently matriculated and enrolled in courses at the College of Arts & Sciences. Alumni who have graduated from A&S within the last 5 years may also meet with our staff members in person or via phone. We will, on occasion, meet with students from other colleges; these appointments are arranged on a case-by-case basis.
Attendance Policy at Alumni and Employer Events
Relationships with alumni and employers are an important aspect of career development. As such, we hold our students to a strict attendance and cancellation policy. If a student can no longer attend an event, they must notify our office of this cancellation at least forty-eight hours prior to the event’s start.
Students who fail to appear at an alumni-related event sponsored by our office, such as a Career Conversation, Office Hours appointment, or networking event, will have a notation added to their Handshake profile, and will be ineligible to participate in on-campus recruiting, career conversations, office hours, or other A&S only alumni-student career networking events until the student meets with a staff member in A&S Career Development to discuss the absence. Students who fail to appear for a second time at an alumni-related event sponsored by our office must meet with someone in A&S Career Development and will be ineligible to participate in any A&S events with alumni, including career conversations, office hours, or other alumni-student networking events, for six months following the date of the absence.
Mock Interview Policy
In addition to regular appointments, students may also schedule mock interviews with staff members in our office. These appointments must be made with at least two days of advanced notice. Students must also return our Mock Interview Preparation form, along with a copy of their resume and a description of the job for which they are interviewing, at least one business day prior to their appointment. Should students neglect to return these materials, their appointments will be rescheduled.
Recruiting, Employer Communication and Interview Policy
Students who are participating in on-campus recruiting and interviewing at Cornell must familiarize themselves with the policies as outlined by Cornell University Career Services, especially policies applying to cancelling interviews, reneging on offers, falsifying information, and best practices for approaching employers. Further, we do not release contact information for alumni or recruiters for career-related purposes without their explicit permission to do so.
Students participating in LinkedIn or career-related communication via social media are expected to adhere to the NACE standards for professional practice.
For Faculty & Staff
Arts & Sciences students are uniquely positioned for many careers, yet they may not know how to best present their liberal arts background to employers. This is where Career Development can help. Our office is the first port of call for the English major headed for hospital administration or the sociology major thinking about environmental law, as well as any other combination of major and career. Students are encouraged to get to know Career Development staff as early as their freshman year.

- Handshake: Cornell’s online recruiting system where employers post jobs and internships. Learn about current job openings, internship opportunities, and employers attending career fairs. Contact the Career Development Center for a faculty username and password.

Here are some simple ways to connect your students with Arts & Sciences Career Development
- Invite Arts & Sciences Career Development staff to speak to your class for 10 minutes. We’ll briefly discuss how your field of study is relevant to various careers (with examples), share a few internship or job opportunities and talk about how Career Development can help. We’ll keep the discussion broad enough that non-Arts & Sciences students in the class will benefit as well.
- Keep our Career Development brochures in your office and hand them out during office hours.
- Talk with us about how to assist your students in their career planning.
- Offer extra credit for completing a Career Development scavenger hunt (we will provide this) or resume review.
