Applying to Graduate

Check the student timeline for the deadline for completing the online application to graduate. If you are on a regular schedule and you are graduating in the spring your application deadline would be during the previous fall semester. If you are accelerating or you are on a different schedule, please see DoraLee Knuppenburg (dmw1@cornell.edu). Details of the application are as follows: The application has two parts, fulfillment of College requirements and fulfillment of major requirements.

Part I: College Requirements — to be filled out and submitted by you:

In Part I, you will see your DUST (Distributed Undergraduate Student Tracking) report, which shows which distribution requirements you have fulfilled. You will also see a chart of all of the courses and credits you have taken, term by term and in total. Last, you will see and respond to a series of questions about the fulfillment of other college requirements.

After you submit Part I, an email will be sent confirming the submission and providing a pdf file of the submission. You will be asked to make an appointment with your advisor to fill out Part II, major requirements, and to prepare for that appointment by putting together a list of courses you have taken for the major.

To get to Part I of the application to graduate, go to http://data.arts.cornell.edu/grad/grad_app.cfm.

Part II: Major requirements — to be filled out by you and your advisor(s) and submitted by your advisor(s):

Please note that if you have more than one major, you must meet with each major advisor to fill out a Part II for each major. If you are a dual-degree student, you must meet with the advisor who handles dual degrees, as well as with your own advisor. External transfer students and students who have studied abroad should take transcripts of their non-Cornell courses to their advisor meeting(s).

When you and your advisor meet, your advisor must click on the Part II link in the email s/he received to be able to get to the form. Then together you can fill out the form, which contains a series of questions about courses you have taken for the major. If you have declared one major, there will also be a section on the electives requirement. If you have more than one major, you are exempt from the electives requirement.

If you have questions about the information contained in either Part I or II, please contact DoraLee Knuppenburg (dmw1@cornell.edu), if you have problems filling out the Part I, please contact Brenda Lind (bll2@cornell.edu), and if you and your advisor have problems filling out the Part II, please call advising at 607-255-4833.
